WMA ARCHIVES

UX & UI design, Information architecture, Design system

An experimental interface to radically change the way digital archiving is explored.

INTRODUCTION

WMA (https://wma.hk/) is a non-profit gallery based in Hong Kong whose mission statement is to facilitating greater understanding of the region through physical and virtual art.

As a result, WMA has amassed a large collection of digital artefacts. This collection represents an important part of Hong Kong history. Entangled in a complicated geopolitical situation, the preservation of this "cross-generational and cross-geographical discourse" becomes all the more important.

DESIGNS

The project's main goal was to provide a technical proof-of-concept for novel paradigms around file handling and categorising. Developed in partnership with WMA, the applet was designed to read a custom-made archive file, as well as manage and explore its content.

An important aspect of the design of the archive was the ability to organise and reorganised archived material according to categories and labels of the user's choice, offering a maximum of liberty in the interpretation and exploration of the content, as well as avoiding traditional issues of hierarchy in epistemological systems.

Public information restricted due to the sensitive nature of the project. More information available upon request.
